Scholarships

Listen, I understand that scholarships are great and offer students a lot in funding. Its the weeding out and waiting process that I cant stand!!

May people apply for scholarships and to find the best candidate is the most important, but so is how easy the process is for candidates to apply. Most scholarships have eligibility requirements from the get-go. Black, Asian, Hispanic, and LGBTQ have specified scholarships that offer thousands of dollars to one, or possibly a few, college-bound kids. Depending on age, race, sexuality, ethnicity, or military status one can have there options diminish fast. The problem also occurs when finally finding your options as well.

First of all, how many sites are there that advertise the available scholarships? . . . hundreds! Some sites advertise different scholarships than others and it becomes a cluster fuck of not knowing if you checked all available options!

The harshness of the judging also depends on what scholarship you end up picking. If you have 10 pt. instead of 12 pt. font, its pretty likely the people who decide which candidate gets the prize will not read your essay. The simple line of “They didn’t follow instructions.” can automatically get someone out of the running for a simple mistake or having misread.

Second of all, when you find the scholarship(s) you want to apply to, do they all have a similar vetting process? . . . NO! Some require identification documents, essays, videos, pictures, recommendations and sometimes even all of these things need to be validated. Not to mention ‘Extra Points’ from posting about the scholarship on social medias.

All in all there is equal amounts of good and bad that scholarships provide. The biggest thing is that many people do use the resource because of how difficult and time consuming it can be to apply. It just kinda sucks.
